My job satisfaction when I’m training on a CELTA is so bound up with my trainees’ fortunes that the week goes from lows to highs according to how they’re doing. This especially relates to TP – midweek I watch a lesson I know the trainee won’t be happy with and where I see no progress and I go home wondering what I should be doing differently to guide her. Then she ends the week with an ‘above standard’ lesson, having really listened in Supervised Lesson Planning, and spent hours working on the plan. It’s a good reminder that it’s all part of the process, that it can come together when it’s right for the trainee, not when I need it too. Just need to keep the message clear and consistent, and be patient.
